Searching metadata

Formulating a search query

The search tab in fredato assists you in finding collaboration partners and helps you locate your own annotated datasets. To perform a search, simply enter your query into the search bar:

In general, each word is searched for separately in the metadata entries and their contextual data (e.g. project or author names) and the results are then combined. The query supports common operators for controlling the search terms and their combinations. Here is a selection:

ANDBoth terms must existfibroblasts AND microscopyFinds only entries that contain "fibroblasts" as well as "microscopy"
ORAt least one term must existfibroblasts OR microscopyFinds entries that contain either "fibroblasts" or "microscopy" or both
NOTTerm must not existfibroblasts NOT microscopyFinds entries that contain "fibroblasts" but not "microscopy"
* (wildcard)Term can contain other characterscell*Finds entries that contain words start with "cell", such as "cells" or "cellular"

Understanding the results

After performing the search, the results will be presented in a table:

Search results

  • Date: Shows the date this entry has been last modified.
  • Name: The name of the metadata entry. The link will open it in the metadata editor, if you have access to the project.
  • Schema: The form that has been used to create the metadata entry.
  • Project: The fredato project the metadata entry is attached to. The link will open the project in GitLab or Nextcloud, depending on if there's a checkout and if you have access to the project.
  • Contact: The email addresses of contact persons of the project. You can use this to ask for access or connect with the people behind the projects you are interested in.
